72 Steps + 11 years + 2 Best Friends = 1 Picture

I’m tellin ya people you gotta get on The City with Mars Hill Church. It astounds me how one site can change my life so much…and its NOT Facebook! Here’s a tally of goodness pouring out of The City: free new mattress, free rent!!!, and now free photography session! It just maybe that God is dowsing me with LOVE. Yup, pretty positive that its.

Case in point, Dan. A wonderfully talented photographer. He somehow made the ridiculousness of Brenda and I “playing” together to look beautiful. Now that is a feat! We had a lot of fun but Brenda and I will be keeping our day jobs.

His mission statement in life is to bless people around him with the gifts that God has given him. Hello! Seems intuitive, right? Dan is doing life the right way. He works in medicine during the day and nightlights as a photographer in the off hours. How did I meet Dan and what does The City have to do with it? He posted on The City that he does portrait sessions for free. I was extremely skeptical of this because of an old college dorm mate who also did free portrait sessions. Eeeeek! I thank my parents and God for giving me the common sense never to believe that guy. But unlike weird dorm mate guy, Dan truly is a talented snapshot artist. If you don’t believe me or think the pictures of Brenda and I aren’t classical art, check out his website.

Brenda (my best friend of 11 years!) and I choice to take pictures in the quaint section of Ballard where we originally met. We both forgot that the Ballard Farmer’s Market takes place on a Sunday. But all for the better since we were able to shop (our favorite thing), eat homemade mini doughnuts and eat some gelato. Much to Brenda’s dismay; with an audience. Haaahahaaa.

Now for the fun stuff…

We almost look like real models here…if you close one eye and squint.

Dan is very stealthy when he takes pictures. Brenda and I “lost” him many times while we were absorbed in shopping and tasting different foods at the market. Because of his unique ability to let you be yourself, we did just that! And he caught us at our best moments. Here are the bloopers!

Brenda couldn’t keep a straight face while we were doing our serious photos. Because of her laughing I’m smirking trying so hard not to laugh!

And now for the painted piece… Thank you very much Dan for giving Brenda and I great gift to remember for many more years to come!

Dan likes to wear hats too!

The Return of 4 Eyes

I have my eyes back! My glasses that is. After wearing glasses for 13 years, I had to send a pair away for glass repair. I felt lost, alone and BLIND without them!!! Well maybe not completely blind since I have an ample supply of contacts.

I had bought a new pair of glasses a year and half ago. Taa – Daaaaa!

Sadly enough they somehow got scratched on their scratchless lenses.  And yet I had paid extra for the scratchless quality of these lenses. But wonders of wonders them came with a warranty! So the fixing was free! (My favorite word right behind chocolate.) Hence my being blind for a couple days.

Thanks to The Optic Shop in Tampa, FL my glasses were fixed, sealed and delivered! And in less than a week. Thank goodness! While I love contacts and the ability to change in between personalities, the freedom to wear glasses and “be lazy” is ohhhh so delicious!  And now… “I can see clearly now the rain is gone!” Well actually the rain is still around. I do live in Seattle people but the scratches are good-bye!

Just a good tip for all those music lovers out there. Just click on The Optic Shop link to hear the music. Super funky, fun, poppy and absolutely perfect for a day bopping around town and feeling the loveliness of Fall.

Simplicity at it’s lashiness!

The Signal is Coming in Strong

The trill of an incoming text message on my cellphone is usually a normal semi-exciting daily interruption. But once and awhile, the interruption is a wake up call much needed to my regular type day. There is one person who sends these blessed texts to me and helps me to come back to earth via heaven.

I met Riny my sophomore year of college when she moved into my dorm apartment. She immediately became one of crowd and we’ve remained friends every since. One of my favorite memories is assisting her in writing a poem and making brownies to drop off at a guy’s dorm in attempt to scare him. Poems and brownies make sound like the antithesis of a truly terrifying experience but believe me when I say this boy was shivering in his boots in 90 degree weather! Oh the wild times in college making brownies… hahaaaa.

Now that Riny and I are separated by miles and miles, her texts of Godly advice always come at the right time. Instead of brownies and poems, I receive advice and direction straight from the Big Man himself. Riny has been sending text messages with Bible verses in them for quite awhile. I can’t remember if they started in college or maybe afterwards. It seems like they are always on point though. Funny how God works that out.

These are the verses that I have kept on my phone to look at daily or randomly when I need a reminder of God’s grace, direction, love and the gift of friendship.

John 15:5 (New Living Translation)

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

2 Corinthians 1:8-9 (New Living Translation)

We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters,[a] about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. 9 In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.

Ephesians 5:20 (New Living Translation)

And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

*This is my personal anthem through Jesus for my life. Hence this blog.)

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (New Living Translation)

That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are[a] being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

I am still amazed at how the small things in life are always the ones that I remember and hold true value to. Thank you, dear Riny, for being my continual reminder to delve into God’s word and find strength in him.

Now here is a few snapshots from the college days…

Christmas party with all the ladies. Riny, far right, and me with long hair in red/gold dress.

Getting all pumped up for a USF Bulls game. Funny thing is I’m wearing that shirt right now. School pride!

Homecoming Sophmore Year

Just Riny and I from the holiday party. Oh beautiful Indian Girl with your bright smile and gorgeous hair!

Apparently God is only over the United States in this viewpoint, aka United States is the world. Not really my viewpoint but its how art happens…
